Angel Of Death

We reached the city hospital at the stroke of midnight. As I rushed through the gates to the reception, I had a strange feeling in my mind that something was wrong. The receptionist directed us to the department of surgery to meet Dr. Walker. We were told to meet him first and then visit Luke. Dr. Walker was a man in his late sixties. He was considered to be one of the best surgeons in the country.

As soon as we entered the doctor’s chamber, Clay broke out in tears. To console him John took him out while I waited for the doctor to inform me about Luke’s health. The news that he shared was shattering. Luke had died during surgery due to poisoning. Although the bullet had pierced Luke’s right shoulder thus fracturing his collar bone, the injury was not severe enough to cause his death. However, during the surgery the doctor realized that the tip of the bullet carried some sort of a poisonous element that had spread in Luke’s blood rapidly. Later on examination it was found that the chemical was Ricin a deadly fungi which unless detected very early causes a quick and silent death.

The doctor took us to the room where Luke’s body was kept. As he took the sheets off, Clay screamed out in agony. It was too much for him to bear. John quickly took Clay out of the room and promised me to safely drive him home. Meanwhile the police and the club authorities were intimated. The press had started gathering at the hospital entrance. The news was spreading all around as fast as a forest fire. Questions were being raised about security and safety of all the people living in the city.

Meanwhile I stood near Luke’s body with a range of thoughts sweeping through my mind. The cold and pale body of Luke was giving me apt company in that dark night. The fun loving guy, who had saved my life a few hours earlier, was lying dead in front of me. As the Angel of Death swept through the room bringing a sense of impending doom, I was deeply emerged in thoughts of those few days this guy had been a part of my life.

The police took away Luke’s body. Officer Jones advised me to go home as I had already had a hell of a night. He promised me that he would ensure justice was rendered. After getting his assurance, I decided to go home and think about what was the next step to be taken. During my journey back home, I got a call from an unknown number. The person on the other side did not speak. The only sound present was the screeching sound of a car and the scream of a man. I recognized it at once. It was Clay. I could not even think about what could have happened with Clay.

I called John as he was the one driving Clay home. John did not respond. So, I decided to visit Clay’s home. As my cab speeded down the highway I got another call from the unknown number. A harsh voice spoke from the other end. The message sent a shiver down my spines.

“Don’t mess with me else you will end up in the same flight to hell as Luke and Clay”.

It was Lucio Giordinelli, the mobster. I just didn’t know what to do. As my cab reached the neighborhood where Clay lived, I could see a flaming car with a mob surrounding it. The fire brigade and police had also arrived at the scene. It was John’s car. When the ambulance arrived, the firemen had already pulled out a body from the car. It was Clay. His body was badly burnt and his face was smashed. As the ambulance took him away, I realized that maybe I had lost him too. However John was not present in the near vicinity. I was really worried about him. After potentially losing the two brightest talents of my side, I did not want to lose my best friend.

The police sealed off the entire area. From the primary investigation it apparently seemed to be a car accident due to rash driving. However, the forensic experts drew a different conclusion. The car had been smashed from the side by some other vehicle. Due to the impact, the car lost its track and overturned. The sudden impact may have caused a fuel leakage leading to the fire. The vehicle which had hit John’s car was a black one and apparently from the tire marks and paint on a nearby tree it seemed to be a limo.

A black limo…………… the first thought that came to my mind was a similar black limousine that had been parked near the Blue Haven. It must have belonged to Lucio. The bastard destroyed my beloved friends and then warned me of more violent consequences if I ever crossed his way. While the police recorded my statement, I got the affirmative grim news once again. Clay was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Angel of Death had taken away the best of pals Luke and Clay together. Who would have ever thought that they would end up where they were when they left their homes together for the night out at Blue Haven.

As for John, his so called body was found after a few days in the nearby woods. The body seemed to have been eaten away by some carnivore as it had been lying in the woods for several days. Although the face could no longer be seen, I identified him from the tattoo of the angel painted at the back of his neck. I had lost my best friend. The autopsy pointed out that John had died due to strangulation. It meant that first John was murdered and then his body was dumped in the woods. Then Lucio had burnt Clay alive in that car after creating a scenario to make it look like an accident.

I was feeling alone in this cold and lonely world. For the first time I felt fear running down my spines. I could not let the deaths of my friends go for a waste. I had to bring the assassin in arms of justice. However in the process I would feel the wrath of Lucio and his henchmen. Maybe the Angel of Death was looming around me for his final victim. But the recent saga of events had made me tougher than ever before. It was time to rise to the occasion and deliver the goods. It was time to deliver a knockout punch to Lucio. His anarchy had to end one way or the other. I ‘The Bulldozer’ pledged on that day that I would end Lucio’s reign and bring justice and freedom to my friends and to the thousand others who had been bereaved of something or the other due to his hideous activities.
